Anyone remember the days when we'd come back from the Olympics with a total haul of one gold and a couple of silvers?!

It’s the taking part that counts!

Yes our typical haul was a gold or two, 5/6 silvers and about 15 bronzes. Our bronzes were usually heroic performances by underfunded and underprepared athletes celebrated like wins.

The nadir was 1 gold in 1996 (Redgrave & Pinsent I think, unless they were in the 4s then) but otherwise we consistently got 5 golds from Moscow 1980 onwards. Either lottery funding or reaction to Atlanta, or both has catapulted our medals haul.

A lot of it is simply down to the funding.

Did anyone watch the women's sailing 49er (skiff) final? Fab to watch, but controversy as two boats went through the wrong finish line!

Might post this on sailing thread, as it's a bit niche! :-) G

Didn’t see that. I watch a bit of sailing. Got into Sail GP and Americas cup as my old company were a sponsor. That sounds very odd though - how can there be multiple finish lines??

Couldn't find a thread so thought I would start one.

Who else is off to watch or who is watching at home?

We're doing Lille and Paris and a mix of sports. Currently trying to find travel insurance that includes ticket cancellation as some of the trains in the UK might be difficult and we have some internal French trains to do as well.

Also need to work out the new Paris metro ticket/app combo (Navigo I think).
