So everyone diligently stopped except of course the machines, and as a queue quietly built up behind me the machine was loudly asking me "Do you wish to continue?" then "Authorisation needed" (to cancel) i tried surreptitiously pressing a button but apart from a loud beep it started going on again after a short time. The lady next to me was repeatedly getting "Scan your clubcard to receive club card points". Still everyone observed the silence even if the machines didn't.
