Sorry about the long drive home, Alice... but I hope you enjoy The Red Shoes as much as Raffo and I did. I know you'll remember me writing about it. Lose yourself in it, it's wonderful.

Thanks, Sharkie - I was umming and ahhing about booking as it's quite a way to go and not cheap. Your lovely blog way back was the decider. I'm sure I'll enjoy it! And I'll be "all grown up" (just read your blog for today!) and drive home without being wimpy about it being A Long Way in the dark.

I have just bought duck for the first time ever. I realised I've never eaten it. Venison, goat, pheasant...but no duck. I think I've avoided it because it's fatty - but I did that with lamb for ages before I remembered the many good reasons for eating it (not least it's well tasty).
I have a recipe lined up involving red cabbage, vinegar, honey and star anise amongst other things...

It's a bit dear of course but then good meat should be and two duck legs will make at least four portions for me.

You're in for a treat, Sharkie. I'd find it hard to choose between duck and lamb as my favourite red meat.

I have just let Wanda off the lead on a walk in a place where I have never done so before. It was for no more than 5 minutes and probably doesn't sound a very big deal to many people but it was a big newt for me.

I also hate long drives in the dark. I don't think it's wimpy to acknowledge that you don't like them. Wimpy is not doing it so you miss out.
Ooh, duck is yum. I haven't had it for ages. And I've never cooked it myself. (Bookmarks potential Newt for later on).

It is a big deal, Baroness. and xxxxx to you and Wanda. All dogs (and owners) deserve off lead.

And Maz is right, Alice. Feel the squeak and do it anyway. Or something. (And Maz, I didn't half laugh at your clubbing, not, remark earlier.

Sorry for the delay. Hectic morning. I would like to award Sharkie newt of the day for posting on a new thread. Mostly because it obviously wasn't an easy one and sometimes it's good to be out of the comfort zone.
