Can anyone confirm: is cadence a double step, ie left/right? Just got a Forerunner 220 and it appears to record this, but I'm doing 70-80ish so I feel it must be a double step.

One thing I have often wondered: why can Fetch not see my new workouts until after I have uploaded to Garmin Connect? I'd probably ditch Garmin Connect altogether otherwise, as it's a bit crap.

Quimby - pretty sure that's what it's telling you. I could automatically double it, but some watches seem to report single step, some double step.
SF - when Fetch uses the Garmin Communicator Plugin, it's just looking for files that have been synced onto your computer (unless you're using a fairly old Garmin). Maybe those files don't get pulled onto your computer until you've done the thing with GC. I use a Timex

Either that's a very clever question or a very rubbish one...
To get something off the watch so Mr Everyone can see it, it has to get onto the computer. And if it is on the computer, Garmin Connect can see it...

I think you can disable the auto-upload to GC, if you want to.

If you're using ANT Agent, there's a thing where you can switch off the sync to Garmin Connect. Sometimes I can find where to set it, and sometimes I can't. Maybe it's in the Room of Requirement.

I don't think it is that daft a question. I had a 305 and I never uploaded anything to GC. It seemed to me like the FE upload tool accessed the garmin directly while it was connected by USB. When you upload on FE it says looking for garmin, which is misleading for newer models as the garmin doesn't even need to be switched on, never mind connected to the computer.
I just let it upload to GC but I never go to the site, and I now have a shortcut on my desktop to where the FIT files are stored so I can clear it out every now and then as the FE upload tool ends up taking ages when there's a bundle of files in there. You've got to clear the history on the garmin at the same time though.

Davie what do you mean by "you have to clear the history on the garmin at the same time" ? Do you mean otherwise the files would just get re-added to the computer next time you connect ?
If so, then maybe it's watch model dependant, but that doesn't happen with my 910 - I regularly clear out old files on computer, but only rarely clear out the watch history and it doesn't re-add them back to the computer

Yeah, mine have added them all back onto the computer if I don't clear both at once. I don't mind clearing the garmin out of data actually as I've twice found myself on long runs before and it stopped recording splits as there was no space left.
Going back to the splits thing. This morning my run was 15 miles, my notes recorded a 16th split of 1 second (ie I ran 15 miles and 1 second) and yet the splits graph still only shows 14 mile splits. Also the splits graph doesn't match the garmin splits, so I assume that there's some background calculations going on for distance and times rather than just pulling info from the garmin.
