I sometimes wear them when watching football on the tv. They get taken out to football matches. I have two pairs of occupational glasses (slight varifocals that are good for screen work or reading) Old varifocals that live in the car and get worn on long-distance drives, or if I'm feeling tired.

They have lives of their own, it would seem, and wander at will. I just found one pair under the footstool in the lounge and the other pair are AWOL.

I have a million pairs of glasses of which only two very old pairs were issued by a bricks and mortar optician. I mostly wear contact lenses of a combination that gives me adequate near vision and adequate distance vision for most purposes but wouldn't do for threading a small needle.

I was 7 - and captivated by the story, especially as I was self conscious about my glasses. Branestawm had five pairs of glasses, the fifth for looking for lost pairs. The book also gave me a nickname that some friends still use! Harry Hill as the professor.
