Unsafe Breadbin
Had a nasty one in my left foot 10-11yrs ago and like others, had it excised.

Surgeon kindly showed me the piece of nerve after the op and it looked horrendous. On crutches for 8 weeks and lost my mojo for running for many years afterwards :-(

Definitely recommend shoes with a wide fitting toebox (NB are generally good for this option, but there are others) and shock-absorbing insoles if you pound the pavements a lot (I use Enertor). These in conjunction seem to be keeping any reoccurrence at bay.

I had it, still get reminders of it from time-2-time. I changed to shoes with a wide toe box (asics) and even resorted to using a pad a little like the ones in the link below. Of course, the more padding you add the more crowding of the toes there is and that's the most common cause.

amazon.co.uk

I still get a twinge from time-2-time, or that feeling of crumpled sock. It scares me, this was one of the most serious issues I've had as a runner and I really thought it might be the end for me. I got it under control but it took time and patience - I'm glad that you are on it and looking for help. Good luck.

Thanks Windsor Wool, yes maybe it wont escalate, and i can manage it.
I really hope so, this week will tell. It fells like that now anyway.
Its good to address the problem from start, so hopefully ill benefit from that.

Just now i feel nothing at all, have two toes taped together and that seems to ease up the space between the bones that was the problem.

I'm surprised that having toes taped together helps - it's being all squished that caused my neuromas! I also wear toe socks which helps with the spacing, along with a wide toe box. (Brooks & New Balance seem to be the widest with a choice of wide fittings)

Yes but i tape the two toes next to the issue, and it suppose to ease the space where the problem is. Dont know if its working att all. but it dosent hurt to try, ive read alot about people being helped by this.
Like this.
Little toe is number one. I have the issue between 2 and 3, i tape 3 and 4 together. something like that.

Now I see! I thought you'd be taping 2 & 3 together which would cause a bit of a problem!

It’s been a while now, some easy careful runs trying out different shoes and what not, the massive pain I got the first time haven’t happen again.

But some sensation has occurred once in a while.

Lately I’ve been “sore” under most of the fore foot during runs, and today it was only 5k. So I wonder how a longer run would’ve fan out.

I also stand up at my desk at work, but I have done this for 15 years or so, and I use a soft mat to stand on. So it shouldn’t be that.

How does it feel for you guys when the sensation in the foot sort of appears?

Yes when it’s bad, but I wonder if there are any stages before that.

I got soreness and sometimes numbness

About This Thread

So it seems like I have a irritated nerve in my foot, and it’s called Morton’s neuroma apparently.

Anyone have any experience of this and can give some tips how to manage it, or get some relief so I maybe just don’t have to completely get away from running with rest.

It’s exactly where the top arrow points, but on my left foot.
Se pic in next post.
