The worm thing always happens in mine. I don't worry about it and I only put kitchen waste in there mostly. They seem to disappear in the winter and the summer.

Yeah I read about the air pressure thing too, and to be fair the weather is getting stormier, so who knows!

More cardboard required! A compost heap/bin needs a fifty fifty balance of green and brown. If there are too many grass clippings, the worms don't like it as it gets damp and anaerobic so they can't breathe.

Great conversation here and it’s making me think I need to add more shredded paper to mine.

We use a lot of egg boxes ripped up and save leaves from the winter to add over the rest of the year.

Lol OS.

I gave the compost a good mix yesterday. It didn't smell, and if anything it seemed on the dry side. Perhaps they were out on a day trip! I'll keep an eye on things over the next few days.

We seem to be having a saw fly larve issue. I don't mind some pests but they are munching through a few bushes throughout the garden. I don't want to eliminate but any suggestions with ways to naturally reduce them to give the bushes a chance to recover?

Newspaper spread under the bush, give bush a good shake. Pick up newspaper and dispose.

Cultivation of the ground under the bushes will bring the pupae to the surface. Birds or frost will do the rest.
