I think the larvae don't like the roots of the poached egg plants. Someone told me and it has worked for everyone I tried it with. Not sure if it works for other saw fly... Worth a try!

How does the poached egg plant thing work? I can't think of a reason.

I think it stops the larvae from doing their thing under ground, so next year's generation is obliterated.

I tried scattering poached egg plant seeds around my gooseberries, then forgot I had done so, so I probably weeded them out 🤦‍♀️

I must try raising some in plugs to transplant instead. 😅

Limnanthes flowers really attract hoverflies, and they flower early so it means you get pest-eating hoverfly larvae early on in the year. I guess the hoverfly larvae eat the sawfly larvae rather than it being anything directlly to do with the plants themselves?

Predatory hoverfly larvae mostly eat aphids, so I don't think they would have much impact.

Wasps are what you need! Ichneumons and vespids.

I should try something, masses of Sawfly the last two seasons, doesn't seem to do much harm, but my roses look ragged, so a nice natural remedy would be good.

Put up a few nestboxes; I'm sure blue tits and great tits would go for the larvae, and the timing seems about right. I think ground beetles are helpful too, but I'm not sure how best to encourage them.

I bought 32 plants in 2 and 3 litre pots, including one Vitex shrub, for £69 today at the last gate sale of the season today. Chuffed! Having not bern able to garden this year until now, I am slowly getting rid of grass and weeds replacing it by plants, planting as densely as I can.
