rf_fozzy, do you mean the remains of the iris, or the remains of the 🐿 🐿 🐿

We have an iris which is flowering for the first time since it was planted five years ago!
Fortunately we rarely see squirrels around here except in the winter when they come looking for hazelnuts.

Oh no!! Bl**dy squirrels, I planted LOTS of colour coordinated tulips last autumn and none survived the squirrels attention. :(

I wish there was a way of deterring the squirrels, they are such a nuisance.

My tulips have (more or less) survived the squirrels.

They ate a couple of my gladioli bulbs (Inc one that had sprouted) but generally they've just been digging holes in places I'd rather they didn't in various pots.

The iris attack is a whole new level - I wonder why they suddenly went for it - they're supposed to be poisonous to animals anyway

At least when I get my greenhouse, I can keep things in there which should stop them somewhat - generally they don't like going *inside* places

I’ve found chicken wire the only way to protect against squirrels. I put it over pots and even over the ground. Toolstation have a plastic-covered lightweight wire which is green so not too ugly. Tulips grow up through it quite happily.

Sorry, brain fade this morning - it was a Lilly, not an iris. And definitely supposedly poisonous to animals.

Anyway remains....

I saw the (or a) fox at the allotment this morning. The biggest, healthiest urban fox I've ever set eyes on. No further squashes pulled up (maybe Silent Roar works?) but copper collars round my beans were all over the place. Encouraged to see that the spinach bed had no further damage either.
