As to greenhouse, we’ve got 2 roof openings with an auto-opener on one of them. I would say it’s essential to make sure the house doesn’t overheat, especially if you’re not always around to ventilate it yourself. We’ve also got a Louvre panel opposite the sliding doors.

Staging is a mixture. We have some integral shelves and a wooden potting table which isn’t attached. One long side is free so that we can grow tomatoes etc from the ground.

And I would agree with Rosehip about getting the best you can afford.

Cool, I'll give it a go then.

I've got to finish weeding the bed over the next week or so, so I'll aim to put some fabric down as I go.I just need something to peg it down with.

I'd never though about around the the fruit bushes, but that's not a bad idea either - my blackcurrant and gooseberry bushes are starting to get a bit swamped by weeds.

It will stop the marigolds a bit, but I've plenty of them in the potato bed - which I actively encourage.

I need to redo my strawberry bed. I think the plants are too old as I get next to no fruit out of them.

I'll continue looking at Greenhouses...

I have polycarbonate panels that are sort-of double glazed with many, many dividers - end on it's a bit like corrugated cardboard - and they have got green algae growing inside, keeping out the light.

I second the comment about using cardboard. I’ve successfully created veg beds and paths on grass with a layer of cardboard and compost (for the beds) or wood chip (for the paths). The grass and weeds coming back up through this has been minimal. Give the cardboard a good soaking if you are going to put compost on top of it.

Another one here keen on cardboard as weed suppressant. For preference a double layer of thick cardboard; black fabric weed suppressant on top of that; and chipped bark on top, holding it all down. Leave it down for 6 months; take it up and inspect; if any weeds have survived (e.g. couch grass, palely snaking around on the bare earth) repeat, and leave for a further 6months.
