Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Rmo3b - as GreP said, strip the foliage off the tomato plants. If they look like they're going off, or frost is forecast, pick them & pit them on a sunny windowsill, and leave a ripe banana nearby too.

Daft though it may sound, it might be worth trying Smell. Suspect Island991 and Hammerite might be able to help?

TL, you should make sure that the birds have ready access to water. If you have a non-spill delivery system it can go in the coop (although they won't drink overnight so it isn't necessary if you are letting them out early). We put out layers pellets in the morning and ad lib grains in the afternoon (this encourages them to eat the layers pellets and then come home later for grains. We never leave food out as it encourages vermin and I wouldn't put it in the house for the same reason.

Thanks AC. oh dear - as suspected I'm seem to be doing it all wrong ! The lady on the smallholding where we got our hens, said to put the feeder in the coop, but the water in the run. At least I've got the pellets and grain the right way round.

She probably said no water in the house as it makes a right mess if it gets knocked over (hence my non-spill comment). Our hens free-range through the day so we have water both in the run and outside and we feed them outside under a shelter (to keep the rain from spoiling the feed). Everyone has their own way of doing things and most aren't wrong. It depends on many variables: the type of house/run, your routine, how much land you have to devote to it etc.

On a positive note, the hens are very happy and already very over-fed and spoilt !!

Disappointing. I honestly thought this conversation was happening on Smell and was all pleased.
