In my experience with ants (and there seem to be lots in York) they come into the house during the colder months of spring and then are quite happy with the food they can find outside. I guess you could put out an easy supply of food outside to deter tham from coming in?

Obviously I am to gardening what the Boston Strangler was to door-to-door salesmen. But I've managed to grow some tomato plants and am now wondering if we'll see enough sun to ripen them before the frosts start.
