Got any better ideas?!
I was happy doing the L100 in xtalon 200s; 2 identical pairs. Are the ultra 260s more mudclaw than x-talon?

Slightly so, I'd say. More like a wide mudclaw with cushioning. :-). The x-talon 255 is the new version of the 200, which mighty be worth looking at.
My last few L100s have been in trailtalon 235s. Have been great apart from the grassy bits of the descent from Black Sail on a v wet year, which was a bit like skiing, and the mud bath that was the descent from the Kops.
I'm probably going to use the Terraultra 270s (now renamed to Rocfly 270s, I think) this year. I've been using them for everything from walking to dryer fell races to ultras the last 6 months. The first inov-8 I've been impressed with since the x-talon 200.
If it's really dry I might go back to the 235s just as they're lighter.

Interesting. I didn't like the tarailtalon 250; maybe should look at the lighter one.
I think the rocfly 270 is just the boot version of the terraultra 270? The terraultras look very cushioned. I don't find cushioning helpful, as a rule.

The Terraultra G 270 has been re-named as Trailfly G 270.
So there's now 2 completely different Trailflys - the 270 and the 300. Not very helpful

Sorry, I meant trailfly G270. Don't know why they had to change the name, and if they had to why not choose something better?!
I was also worried about the cushioning as generally I tend to go for minimal (200s, VFFs, etc) but I actually like it. It's cushioned, but more in a protective, supportive way, than being soft and spongey.

I’ve got both the x-talon 200 & 255. The 255 have stiffer soles and uppers and fit about 1/2 a size smaller than the 200.

Having a shoe rant…
I run in vibrams most of the time but longer distances I need a bit of cushioning so I wear inov8 have various models.
I do love the parkclaw so mine are wearing a bit long in the tooth so thought I’d start looking for some in a sale. A pair came up on eBay, hardly worn feeling too big. My exact size.
Won them they’ve arrived and they are a bit on the small side. They may wear in, my socks are probably a bit thicker as I just grabbed the ones to hand (main socks are packed for my weekend ultra)
But seriously! Different models I get but this is ridiculous. Let’s hope the stretch a bit.

I had a barefoot moment last night, not that unusual I do often take the shoes off for a short while on ‘safe’ ground. Last night was a standard a pavement with bits of ouchy stuff lying about.
I ended off doing 2 stints and 1m on total and have to say I loved it.
I’ll never be fully barefoot but it is something I’ve wanted to do as it’s often said you run your most natural barefoot.

Hi there minimalist types. Time is running out for my Puma H.ST.20s which I have grown to love and they're now pretty much all I run in, the problem is, Puma have decided not to continue making them and so I need to try something else.
As I'm about to move house into a little village with plenty of well trodden trails around I figure it best to go for something with a little grip of the bottom but not too much as I will still be doing mostly tarmac miles.
With all that said, does anybody have any experience with Merrell trail glove 5s? I know they won't be quite as stiff as my H.STs but they seem to be the closest things I can find that aren't silly money.
Any opinions welcome. TIA.
