Bix Beiderbecke? Is Leadbelly jazz or blues? I love "Now this is jazz" from High Society.

For clarity's sake, are you lumping Duke Ellington and Dave Brubeck into this bizarre tirade?

Don't try to reason with the peasants Maclennane. Just throw a turnip and run for it.

A Love Supreme is, shall we say, not exactly a sensible entry point to the wonderful world of 'Trane. Try Lush Life instead. open.spotify.com Lush Life itself is a bit meandering, but the album as a whole has lots of actual tunes. (Whereas A Love Supreme is deep, deep into the third of Alan Plater's divisions of jazz into "hot, cool and what time does the tune start?") |

No! I'm not giving them a vote. Look at Brexit! Badger, the pseudo spiritual guff on A Love Supreme gets me so annoyed I can't pay attention to the music. |

I don't think Love Supreme is *that* 'difficult'. There's an easier, far, far easier way into Coltrane, however - and that's via Miles Davis. Coltrane played sax on Kind of Blue. And if you don't like that Nell, my most excellent and valued friend, then you may as well have your ears removed. |

Actually Nell - might I be able to drag you to the Chelmsford Jazz Club Christmas bash this year? It's great, there are free mince pies, and there's normally a sing-along to When You're Smiling a the end. It's *lots* of fun.
