Just whilst I was bored on a computer earlier I had a look at the "PacePro" feature on the Garmin Connect site (also available on some watches) and it output this as a pacing strategy for an even split Manchester race aiming for 3:30 just making changes where elevation becomes a factor. Pretty level really. If anyone doesn't have access to Garmin Connect I'm happy to plug in different numbers and strategies if that's helpful to anyone.

My number has just arrived in the post, but I'll not be there on 3rd April. Instead, it will the first time since 2013 that I have missed the Manchester Marathon.

Just got my number too. Starting to feel real!
Larkim, that looks like a bit of a hill at 4 and 15.5 miles then, the rest pretty flat?

ASsumign the GPX on Fetch is pretty close to the actual course, then yes. Overall, pretty flat which is basically the selling point.

I've just been on the race website and noticed the course has changed (slightly) again... it seems to happen every year. So the GPX on Fetch is not 100% correct.
There is no longer a loop at 4.5 - 5 miles in the city centre, instead it looks as though it will be a straight out-and-back, to a bit further along Deansgate.

Got my number too, now know that I am Red A (I didn't get the email a week or so ago that others got). Really not far away at all now....

Anyone have any travel advice who knows the area? I am staying in Glossop for the weekend, and originally it was going to be an easy 30 min train into Piccadilly and tram from there, but according to all the timetables there's now a rail replacement bus service instead that wont get me to the start on time...
Do I just drive the 40 mins to the start?! Or brave the 201(?) bus after getting to Hattersley somehow?! Help!

I'd probably drive in to somewhere on the south side of the city as close as you think you can get, dump the car in a residential area and jog to the start.

Yes, I'd just spotted that too Nelly. I think what that really means is that the course is even flatter all the way to about 15-16 miles, but at some point I'll re-draw the fetch GPX map and plug it into Garmin. Basically if you watch average pace (and get a proper GPS lock through the city centre) you should be about 1-2s over early on and recover that in the last 10 miles for an even effort. Which, to all intents and purposes, means even pace through the whole thing.
Of course, Garmin's PacePro algorithm might be wrong

I’ve been keeping quiet, but my bib number arrived today, so I thought I should now accept that I am due at the start line of my very first official marathon. It is not going to be a great performance. For one reason or another, I have not done anything like the training that it needs.
On the bright side, I did already book accommodation a while back, in Northenden, so I’m hoping the journey from there to the start is pretty simple. Since I will be royally bricking it anyway, the anxiety from travelling in an unfamiliar environment will be palpable.
