I don't see why she should be treated any differently to an injury or illness

I shall be interested to see what happens. If Ms Welborn had a normal ballot place she'd be able to defer provided she hadn't already deferred, and if she had a place in the elite race she would have to earn her place again after having her baby rather than being given a pass into the following year's race. I sympathise with Ms Welborn's predicament, but I'm sure other Championship or GFA runners could claim to have been disadvantaged by not having been able to run in 2020, and I'm inclined to think that setting a precedent here could cause significant difficulties for the organisers.

Fizz :-)
I had a feeling that championship deferrals had been disallowed purely because of COVID, but according to the linked article, championship deferrals are not allowed under any circumstances. It’s bad timing, but I think it should stand. In this day and age she had a degree of choice about getting pregnant.

I understood that you were never able to defer Championship or GFA places to a date after your qualifying time had lapsed. Which seems an entirely reasonable rule.

I thought you were allowed one deferral. That may of course be the same thing.

I am hoping to defer due to injury but I would fall foul of the gfa rule. I think though if I defer it’s not on the gfa start just with the masses
