Carry your own water and somehow manage without a bag? Not really the London Marathon any more than the virtual one.

All the cons I've seen still indicated there would be bag drops. But agree it does feel a little like doing the virtual with 40,000 other people.

I guess they are still working it all out if I remember correctly final comms are later this month on it all...

Our club has been asked to man baggage as usual and was asked to be available for an extra hour implying a bigger gap between waves.

I think they're trying to encourage people to be as self sufficient as they can be. Personally I'm planning on using bag drop and water stations as usual!

Our parkrun team aren’t manning the baggage trucks in Oct as we have done for the past few years, but will still be helping out on the start in some capacity.

I’m also planning on dropping a bag and picking up water on course. I’ll carry my own gels though.

I’m expecting the Big Half this weekend to be something of a test event.

Yes I recall that the Vitality 10k and the Big Half are both being used as test events and from those final decisions will be made about how things happen at VLM.

I intend to carry my own gels but take water and making full use of the bag drop as I've got nowhere else to keep it, the hotel check out is during the race.

I always carry my own gels but I'm not running round with a rucksack. :-)

I think my return to London will be next year which is a shame as I love the event. I do prefer training through the summer for an autumn marathon and the vaccinating may finish in March so the change in date will hopefully work for me.

The move of next years event to October I'm just seeing as them giving themselves as long as possible to try and organise a fully back to normal event. Trying to figure that all out during the winter when they don't know what else might kick off wouldn't be easy, but it's relatively safe for them to assume that next summer shouldn't be too crazy.

Would like to have some indication of what restrictions we'll have to work around for this October though. Will the expo happen? Will it just be a number pick up and leave? How are they getting everyone to Blackheath? Will there be the usual water stops or how serious are the stories about carrying your own water? Etc...?

Nothing major really, but would be useful to know as some of those things could impact training strategies, like having to carry water.

Just had a look at the historical results per year on Run Britain and I don't think there will be a problem with GFA times being oversubscribed so getting caught out with the extra cut off times.

My current time run in 2021 has me just outside the top 100 for age group this year, but the same time in 2019 would have had me just in the top 900. There won't be that many more people claiming faster times in London in October, so think once you get the time to apply for a GFA place for 2022 you'll be fine. There will be a few places taken due to the deferrals from 2020, but doubt that would take all the difference in numbers.
