Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Just spotted that no start zones from the Red start being at 10:10? Only the FGFA pens go initially, then zones 1,2,3 from Red begin at 10:22.

That will cause major discrepancies between the pace groups from the different starts from 5km in.

Yes Spideog some Red starters will be merging with potentially slower Green / Blue starters at Mile Three/Four. Might get confusing for people later in the race when they see a pacer who might be 12 minutes ahead/behind "their" pace as they started on a different colour.

But I guess its the only way to ultimately increase the field.

Didnt the race use to start at 9:30 or at latest 9:45?

I'm sure it was earlier back in the day, but since I've been doing it this time around I'm sure it's been a 10am start, just last year(?) got moved back another 10 minutes. They have also unofficially delayed the start of the FGFA start by a minute or two after the elites I guess to ensure nobody gets carried away with themselves to try and beat them to 5km, less likely to happen from the blue start at there are more faster people in the way doing championship start.

The 10:10am start is probably to give a bit more time for the IPC and women to finish without changing the TV schedule to an earlier start.

Setting the back pens off close to 11 seems a bit daft for warm years but hey ho its their race I guess

Ooh, is there a marathon happening in that London this year?! ;-)

Spideog, I had to overtake the pacers twice in my last VMLM. I started from Red GFA and as usual took my time to cross the line and get going, so overtook Red pace group at mile 5 or 6. But there was a pace group from Blue who were way up ahead, and I didn't get them until 10 or 12 miles or something. Very confusing (for me!) :-) G

Ah, sorry, that was my last but one VMLM. In the last one I overtook no one for a PW! :-) G

If you start from the fast GFA then the red 3hr pacers should never be infront of you, unless they let the main start infront of some of the GFA people because the marshals doing things wrong. A couple of years ago when going from the front ish of fast GFA at 2:50 pace I also found myself catching up with the blue 3hr guys around 10 miles in due to them delaying the red/yellow /GFA gun.

Don't trust the pace groups at all at London.

I've just checked back through all my previous runs (from green) and they all started at 10:00, so I must've got to the start area at 09:00, knowing me and my startline paranoia. I don't need to get an even earlier bus from Oxford after all, phew ;-) (I saved my last two bus tickets to remind me that it's the 06:25 bus from Oxford, ouch.)

Yeah those pace groups are always a bit suspect, I remember the 2017 fiasco with one start being 2 minutes after the other, although if you were on green/blue and trying to run 3 hours it gave you a slightly easier race through the first 10 miles as you were ahead of the bunch from red.

Blimey it's complicated if you are fast ! Glad I'll be behind all that complicated stuff 😀
