I'm in the market for some hiking/trail running shoes for a lovely long walk/run through Scotland this summer. I'm considering getting these wiggle.co.uk Roclite 275 GTX as the idea of shelling out for walking boots that I'll hardly wear is not appealing, so I thought waterproof inov8s would be a good compromise. I've been told that the new design of the uppers doesn't last as long as the old one. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance!

I haev found that the newer ones wear out more quickly, but the older design ones are still around (plenty of 315s about). I have been told that the gore tex lets water in (over the top), but then just stops it draining, leaving you with wet feet. I have always gone for non-goretex ones because of this. |

would agree with Johnny have to say i'm sorely disapointed with my last 315's. heel wore away and gave me blisters on heels during fling yet barely any wear on the tread. i blogged abou it and there are pics... |

eL Bee!
emmie - Walking/running off-road in Scotland in any season will see wet bits, and I tend to steer folk away from goretex shoes You sweat more when it's hot and you hold water *in* when it gets in - and it WILL! Goretex shoes are fabulous in the snow though - the only time I really think they are justified. Agree that some of the newer uppers are less hardy than on some of the older models. I still rate the roclite 295 (if you are looking at the roclite outsole) as a competent all-rounder> I have a few sizes left if that is of any interest to you |

that explains it. my last pair of 315s split, around the toe box with less than 300miles on them. i find my goretex pair keep my feet warmer in the winter. my default trail shoes are still 315s. love them. |

I bought a pair of Roclite 315 recently for this year's Lakeland 100. Very comfortable for walking or running

Thanks for all the thoughts! I was thinking about getting those SealSkinz socks, apparently they're really waterproof. Maybe a combination of them and "normal" Roclites would be best? Any other ideas for keeping my relatively dry? eL Bee, that was my previous pair and they were excellent! Do you have size 8.5 by any chance? |

Sealskinz socks are quite rough. I wear them on the bike in the rain, but wouldn't run in them. They might be OK with a liner, but I would just embrace the wet and man-up |
