i struggled at the weekend - was hydrating and fuelling but felt icky as I was on sports drink and gels as I had planned on the day of outlaw but being so hot I was drinking more think it was too much sweet stuff so thinking alternate bottles of energy drink and electrolyte then some other foods hence the book it's going to be a full 17 hrs for me so I have to eat and drink on the bike or die on the run! LOL

I think I may get it. Having the breast cancer gene, I am really careful what I eat, not to trigger it off. I make more or less everything from scratch, home grown and organic ingredients. This would be mega-useful for taking snacks gardening with me, even more than out riding or walking!

I'm thinking it will be potentially useful when back in the office too

I used cold miso soup in my bottles when 12 and 24 hour racing. I also made salty lemonade i.e. water, lemon juice, salt. I would get so very fedup with sweet stuuf I had to force it down me. I would do 1 botyle of energy, one bottle of electrolytes, one bottle of salty, one bottle of plain. Usually worked out at one 750 ml bottle per lap. Laps usually taking 30-45 minutes.

I've had to work really hard on actually drinking and eating especially from the start my head still hasn't accepted I'm out for hours! Still thinks 2 hrs doesn't need fuel rather than thinking I am out for 5-8 hrs I need to fuel from the start not after 2 hrs!

I made all these up beforehand, as I had no support crew, then put trailside. I had to set an alarm to not forget to take gells and couldn't stomach solids.
When fell running, I would make rice porridge with honey and salt, or just honey and salt, in home made pouches out on sandwich bags: tear open corner, squeeze, swallow, keep running...
Whatever you do: do not spill a gell dow your leg! Worst chafging/abrasion/burn ever!!!

It is so hard and why I set my alarm. So I would have my first gel 45 minutes in...

If you can get your garmin to beep when you need a gel, that would work?

this is where I am a pain in the arse Hann! I wear hearing aids but not when I am on the bike as the "wind" is too noisy I tried and alarm and never heard it! I hardly notice the 5m split vibration too I can hear/feel alarms on the run so I guess it's the wind and the road vibration which means I miss it on the bike.
