I'd love to be a sports science graduate at the moment thinking about a PhD opportunity - there is so much that could be gone at for runners that would be valuable, and in some cases also marketable as commercial products (therefore get sponsorship etc to help with funding).

"It’s a good idea to keep well occupied during a fast: sex is a good diversion as is going for long walks."

Timeless.

Well, a long walk can distract me for maybe 2-3 hours. OTOH....

Coe's 800m time one. I get my middle distance people to do 5 and 3k paced sessions, lately people think short and fast....

For the final 24 hours before the race increase water intake by 1 pint an hour but stop 30 minutes before the start. Because sleep the night before a marathon is overrated.

And also, the weak skeleton thing death

In that case, maybe this is a typo too. Abolish or drastically reduce unemployment benefit and welfare hand-outs. In Kenya you work or starve or run to earn a living. If you become a mother, you must provide for the offspring. There is no unemployment or welfare benefit in Kenya. They have learned that man's destiny on earth is work.

Ooh, that's not aged well!

(The only reason I think the 24 hour thing is wrong is because it appears to be pretty similar to the 4 hour proposal of 8oz every half hour and is clearly utterly implausible anyway!)

Ooh, that's not aged well!
It was surely going to be a key policy initiative for the Truss government.

About This Thread

Maintained by larkim
posted an intriguing link to an archive of 72 articles published by Frank Horwill on the Serpentine Running Club website. I've dipped into a few and the advice and guidance there is wideranging and reflects maybe a different "time" of advice.

serpentine.org.uk

Some of this will undoubtedly be timeless, classic fundamentals. Other stuff will have been superseded by newer, better researched advice. Some stuff may be forgotten gems that are worth revisiting.
