Ah. Glad you at least got a bit of help from them. Hope your oncologist can provide the help you need to fight that decision because, as you said, £77 per week is not enough!

I also had advice about using a small private pension to buy an enhanced immunity but that would pay out less than I currently draw down from my SIPP so that doesn't help either. My pot is so small, I pay myself £200/month. This was to pay for increased bills, so no luxury! Sigh!

£77 is a pittence but it is all I can get and I need it!!! I paid over £250.000 into the system. I should be entitled to something!
Ideally without having to proof I am not an illegal immigrant trying to fleece the government!!!

So sorry to hear about all this - it’s so stressful when they say you can work when you clearly cannot. I hope the oncologist can help. In my experience (mostly with PIP), people very often get turned down when eligible and it gets overturned on appeal. I hope that happens for you.

The system is very broken.

Hanneke - if you're eligible for ESA then you may be eligible for the cost of living payments. Try gov.uk website

So sorry to hear you're so poorly, last thing you need is money worries.

Hadn't thought about that Shades, thanks!

I have just been granted ESA on appeal and it changed everything! I am no apparently also eligible for PIP, just started the application process. Will try other benefits related to low income.

OK, I just read up on it. I should get it automatically if I am deemed eligible. However, I think I am getting "new style ESA" so not eligible.

About This Thread

Maintained by
So today I got a letter from the Job Centre after my ESA application.
I am really very ill with metastasised ovarian cancer. Too ill to start chemo on Tuesday.
However, they think I am fit for work. I can apparently work in a garden centre. If I don't I have to come in weekly for job applications and CV coaching.
I told them I run my own business and if I could, I would work in that.
I told them I cannot drive.
I verified they know where I live.
I have to take the bus. It is a 7 mile ...
