Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

:-)

The elevation pic btw is Plean parkrun, my now closest. Hillier than Falkirk! (Pictured above). I'm still (was) going to Falkirk, much prefer it. Top of Heartbreak Hill on a good effort might give you a max hr reading :-)

Actually, for anyone around Glasgow, the third lap of Queen's parkrun would do it as well.

Thanks Dvorak. I’ll try it here...

I run/walk the first mile and then run the rest at MAF, which includes some nice downhill sections where I may be running quite quickly (comparatively) but still under my MAF rate.

4 and a bit a lunch time.

Under 130 BPM and under 10 min/m (just on both counts).

With go out again later. Things seem to be going in the right direction

Lol. That explains why all these photos of me at the end of a marathon show me apparently about to heel strike. ;-).

On a serious note while I don’t doubt you having looked at the photo again a lot needs to happen in a short space of time. A slow mo video would be interesting to see that happen in practice.

Baz - sadly I dont have slow mo pictures to prove it however:

3 things struck me

At that pace an effort I'm not sure I give a shit :-)

Sadly, I dont have 30 slow mo sequenced pictures to demo running in this instance, truly I am devastated that I cannot supply the sequence.

Finally, if you really need to see my running in slow mo, although not this exact moment I can supply video which demonstrates in detail my run technique.

:-)

Caveat - I'm human and old and dont claim to have 100% perfect form 100% of the time.

Remember even Mary Poppins was only practically perfect :-)

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
