Lovely Lovely Gorgeous
UC - I always lick my HRM strap before putting it on. Oddly, I'd miss the taste of it now if I didn't...........

Yes UC, lick your strap ... don't just use water to we it. The body glide might also be insulating the HRM-body conatct.

If I didn't know better I'd think runners were a bunch of proper weirdos!;-)

My wife forced me to wash my strap at one point as it was giving her the boak seeing me licking it. I think i was getting stuck into its salty goodness with too much relish...

actually its not worked as well as it could ever since I washed it in soapy water. I need bodyglide to stop the chaffing.

The Garmin 405 has just arrived this morning. I've charged it up and I'm not trying to work out how it works! Compared to my basic HRM that I've been using it's like going from riding a bike to trying to land a supersonic jetfighter!

The advice generally seems to be that you dont run hard until such time as you have got your HR under control in your easy runs and you are seeing improvement there. I dont think there is any need to rush into doing any sort of speedwork. I have started to add some tempo running back in but that is some months down the line and only really to help me pace a half marathon more effectively. I would suggest you give it a month or two and see how your pace improves with just the easy running.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
