Our old washing machine finally went to the great scrap heap in the sky a couple of weeks ago, so, Mrs12bar & I ambled down to our local Currys to get a new one.

Honestly, I couldn't believe it. Perhaps I should get out more. At least half of the washing machines on display could be operated by an app on your smart phone!!!

Whats the world coming to, why, they'll have a man on the moon next.

In case your interested, we ending up getting a Samsung, & no, it can't be operated by telephone, errr, I mean an app.

Does the app pick the dirty clothes off a teenager’s floor and transport them into the machine, hang them outside and then transfer them back to the floor? Because that would be worthwhile...

Hello Fleecy, I trust you are well?

Unfortunately not, though I suspect theres some boffin somewhere on the planet working on your idea this very minute.

As you've quite correctly pointed out, you've still got to load & unload the blinking thing. I take it some people may take great delight in an app that lets them switch there machine on whilst on the bus or train or laying on the settee.

I've no idea why an app to turn on your washing machine would be a great step forward for humankind. We found exactly the same as you, 12bD, when we bought a new one for the seaside house. We also bought a Samsung, which is ok, but it doesn't seem to spin as dry as our AEG here, despite advertising a 1600 spin speed as against 1400 for the AEG.

ION, it's a fabulous day for drying washing on the line here - windy and warm, perfect :-)

We have a rather old washing machine that works perfectly well atm but has no timer. I'd quite like to be able to load it when I leave in the morning and set it to go sometime in the afternoon, so it's ready to dry when I get home, rather than sitting on a damp bundle all day.

Apparently there's going to be a heatwave this weekend. My first thought was "oh no" (not good in heat) but my 2nd was "good drying weather"!
