I’m fully prepared for Boston instead. I would prefer Manchester if it’s on though, can’t imagine finding a 2:45 train at Boston! Though racing for a placing in a smaller event is also fun, just different.

Aha, *that* Boston!!
I'd like to have a reserve in there, but 6 days after Manchester I'm off on holiday, so the first weekend we're back is VLM weekend and I'm on cheering duties for that for my eldest (subject to cancellations etc!). Not looked any further into May for potential small races, but I think if Manchester does bite the dust then I suppose I'd have to consider Chester in October as I don't fancy risking a summer event as I don't deal well with warmth.

A raced 20 miler in the bag yesterday so I feel I’ve got something out of this training block. 1 week until taper (although the first week of P&D taper always feels a phoney taper me.)

Sadly a DNS for me. I pulled my quad 10 days ago and haven't been able to run since. I hadn't booked accommodation so the risk of cancellation and the injury means I'll probably look to do something in Autumn, maybe Chester or Abingdon. Gutted though, training was going well until the injury

Have a couple of options should Manchester be cancelled so havent really thought that much about it and carrying on regardless! Better to be trained and it not go ahead than to stop and it happens

if the race is canx i get it. although i am not sure it will make much difference in broader scheme of things. virus is out there and feels going to hard to stop it. personally be very disappointing as been such long build up for me.

I was at the Chester 10k yesterday in supporting duties, and it did remind me of the crush and proximity of lots of people at the end of races, and indeed at the beginning where the spectators and runners were huddling for warmth at the race course in Chester. Whether it was any more of a concern than being in a shop, on a bus, on a tube, down the pub etc though is moot. As I've heard reported, if the govt forces closed stadiums for football etc, all that will happen is fans displace themselves down the pub where risks may be actually higher as it is indoors.
Generally being outdoors is one of the lowest risk places, even if in a huddle with others.
All I ask is a) that GMM don't unilaterally cancel without being told they must and b) it is in the context of closures that don't proportionately single out running events!!

Maybe the biggest risk will be at the end where medals/goody bags etc are dished out and maybe these could be set aside ?

agree that something like this should be reasonably far down the list of priorities for disease control but I think we will have to pull out all the stops pretty quick.
Possibly people don’t realise quite how close the Italian healthcare system is to collapse, and it’s not like cases are close to peaking yet.

I ran a 10k on Saturday and instead of pre and post race handshakes people were bumping elbows. Quite bizarre. I am still hoping against hope but have no plan B except be grateful that the marathon training has me in good shape.
