How easy is travel across the city on the morning of the race? I've not committed to this yet (but it's now looking likely!!) but if I stay in the City Centre on the Saturday night is it easy enough to get out to the start for whatever time?

Manchester has a good tram system but might be worth checking what time they start running on a Sunday

Our local expert Nelly has often recommended staying in city centre and getting an early tram out, so pretty sure they start early enough

SM6 - I've never caught an early tram out of the city centre, but according to this link metrolink.co.uk the first tram to Old Trafford (Altrincham line) is at 0646 on a Sunday morning (There's quite a few stops in the city centre, so Picaddily is just an example).

Cheers for that. :) I think I'm going to book a hotel room that I can cancel, then see how training goes through December and January before totally committing. I had said I was going to take a couple of years off marathons after Edinburgh, but the idea is jammed in my head now!

Despite saying I'd never fork out this much for a dreary, fast run around the roads of Manchester, it seems I've entered. Need to get the GFA somehow.

Damn that VMLM ballot system for making me do it here.

flanker, in that case you'll be pleased to hear you haven't paid that much for a dreary, fast run around the roads of Manchester... you've paid that much for a dreary, fast run around the roads of TRAFFORD (as Manchester City Council still refuse to close the roads for this event) :-p ;-) In all seriousness welcome to the sub-3:15 train.

Welcome Flanker, it's a good marathon.

I've had the all clear this morning that I can recommence running after a calf tear which has healed quickly. Although delighted and excited, I am going to be very good and careful and take it short and slowly (may need reminding of this). Going to spend the weekend revising my training plan!

Enjoy the running out there in the wind this weekend folks.I make it 19 weeks to go!

Yes, just a week before my proper training starts, which is a lucky bonus given the weather.
