Personally, I am now appalled that I described that as a sentence, when it's plainly two sentences.
Which is still not as bad as the BBC's lexical crime.

In a gift shop in Muker the other day, I was admiring some lovely art work which included phrases about the Dales. I was annoyed with myself for being annoyed about the misuse of the possessive pronoun in something which cost well over £100. I had to really restrain myself from saying something to the young assistant at the counter!

I know the shop you mean. One of my friends sells her art in that shop, I hope it wasn't any of her work!

Delivery is only...50 yards on the right...
No, no way out of grammar gaol, I'm afraid.

My wife wrote me a note:
Could you cut the grass for tomorrow's lunch?
I know perfectly well that what she meant was, could I mow the lawn so the garden would look a bit tidy as visitors are coming for lunch tomorrow.
I am reading a book on the subject of Translation that Linds gave me. The author reckons it is the translator's duty to make the original clearer if the text is instructions. (A notion entirely foreign to the translators of all instructions anyone has ever read). But if it is creative, the translator needs to do the best they can with the words in from of them.
Perhaps creative instructions come later in the book. And how sure would the translator have to be that eating day-old grass for lunch wasn't a family tradition?
