Grammar pedants - help please.

I was annoyed with myself for being annoyed about the misuse of the possessive pronoun in something which cost well over £100. I had to really restrain myself from saying something to the young assistant at the counter!

I know perfectly well that what she meant was, could I mow the lawn so the garden would look a bit tidy as visitors are coming for lunch tomorrow. I am reading a book on the subject of Translation that Linds gave me. The author reckons it is the translator's duty to make the original clearer if the text is instructions. (A notion entirely foreign to the translators of all instructions anyone has ever read). But if it is creative, the translator needs to do the best they can with the words in from of them. Perhaps creative instructions come later in the book. And how sure would the translator have to be that eating day-old grass for lunch wasn't a family tradition?
