no not completely but I don't do the exercises enough, it's a smaller gap now and ok to do plank etc but i doubt it will get back together after 3 kids...

Do you think it causes you any issues, the gap not being closed, like back pain or posture problems? (sorry to bombard you with questions, feel free not to answer!!) or not? This is where the different physio's I've seen have given different opinions. Some have said it's just cosmetic as its the deeper muscles that stabilise the back and pelvis, and some have said that the gap not being closed will not give adequate stability so resulting in ongoing back and pelvic problems. It's a bit of an odd one because my stomach looks pretty much back to pre pregnancy and I only notice the ridge thingy sticking out during certain movements so cosmetically I'm not too bothered by it. But there are lots of back and pelvis issues ongoing.
The running buggy arrived this morning, we did 3 miles in it, it's fab

Krissie, are there any buggyfit classes near you? those instructors are usually pretty well up on postnatal issues, so finding the name of a local instructor could be another person to ask (my instructor was awesome on diastasis stuff and also teaches foofoo fun club, which is pelvic floor strengthening that doesn't involve boring clenches and takes in the core.)
if your deeper muscles are strong enough then maybe that is OK. but who is assessing whether they are strong enough? (I know you have seen physios but from the sound of it i understand your confusion!)

My back and pelvis have never caused me any issues (yet), but my core could be stronger for sure....I was told that for the gap to close after 3 full term preg it would be a miracle really.

I started going to Buggyfit at 6 weeks and the instructor tested the gap and said It was lots less than 2cm and so I was good to go with crunches, planks the works, so I did. I don't know if it was or wasn't less than 2 then but the ridge seems to have developed since then so I think maybe I shouldn't have been doing traditional abs exercises that early on.
My core has definitely got loads stronger since the early days, I can feel that I'm holding myself better and don't feel like I'm pulling my back when I lift the car seat etc, so maybe I can get by just fine with a gappy belly

First Parkrun with the buggy this morning. 27.30. Loved it Ran there and back as it would have been a mission to get it in and out of the car so 6 miles total done. Took at least a km to be able to get moving properly because over 500 at our Parkrun now, then when I had space went zooming off with the excitement of my first proper run with the buggy and was nackered by 3k!! Managed to plod on and up the steep hill at the end without walking (just!)

well done, I love buggy parkruns too although ours is very hilly so it's tricky with a busy downhill and then uphill path.
