Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Hi Paul,

If you open Garmin Express and click the cog (settings) options you have a tick box you can unselect to stop Garmin Express updating automatically

Hope that helps

:) I would have sworn there was a setting specifically for stopping Express updating, but it's not there in 5.7 for sure.

There's only the option to alter device updates in 5,7

Strangely enough I was on version 3.29 prior to Paul's question this evening and it only updated to 5.7 when I selected the Garmin Express update option

Thanks for the rapid replies gentlemen.

Both of those tick-boxes that Badger suggested - I have tried them, without success, in the last few days. At least, I'm 99.9% sure, although I'll go and do it again now just in case I'm losing my marbles.

There isn't a box specifically for stopping updates (at least, not in 5.4 or 5.5, and also 5.7 as you say). Perhaps there was a way back (like cg's 3.29?). If I can find one of them, and stop updates that way.... (not sure whether that old a version will result in other issues, but at the moment I don't have GE at all, so it can't be worse :-)).

So you probably need an older version - on the bright side, the 310xt hasn't changed firmware in ages, so there's a good chance older versions will work OK for that side, and it sounds as though cg was getting on OK with 3.29.

I have found a couple of old installers in my download folder and am happy to share if it helps

I've moved on from the 310 although I still have it. I was having trouble with the garmin express when trying to get a garmin 15 sorted. Maybe I'll try some of the solutions from above.

While we're on the subject, if anyone has a broken 310XT I'd love to take it off your hands. The strap has broken on mine, while the device itself is OK!

Northern Exile I'm almost sure I have an extra strap about. I'll get a check for it Wednesday afternoon /evening.
