You've done a few races as well Vrap so would have expected it to adjust. I suppose as long as it's better further changes of a similar nature might make it even more accurate. |

The changes I'm referring to happened in September.

I'm stuck with the old "VO2max table" approach on mine, and even that's getting distorted these days. I'm defaulting to a lot of 3 mile easy pace run which seem to generate "good" VO2Max figures for me, so it thinks I am a chunk fitter than I really am. Does anyone know what would happen to the Garmin VO2Max figures if I increase the weight that it thinks I am? Intuitively it should reduce VO2Max but I'm not sure Garmin's calcs take account of weight. (I find it slightly odd that if I were to weigh a lot more and yet still race at similar speeds, my VO2Max would be lower! Or maybe I've misunderstood!) |

I do indeed race quite frequently, SPR. The times Garmin quotes me for up to half marathon are around 30s/mile faster than I've actually run in races this year but very close to the best times I achieved last year and possibly within reach if I optimise my training, lose a bit of weight and get perfect conditions on a flat course on race day.

I would assume the estimation of VO2Max includes your weight in such a way that it cancels out over time, though perhaps not immediately if you change your weight. Eg 4mins/km is a certain VO2/kg intake regardless of what the kg number is.

I'm loathe to experiment, but would be curious to see what happened if I suddenly put weight in at 120kg or something wildly different to what I do weigh. A curiousity only.

Pretty sure it VO2 Max is per Kg so wouldn't expect changing your weight in the watch. It's not measuring absolute oxygen intake it deriving it from performance so it can only be per Kg. @Velociraptor I imagine as soon as you optimise your training it will predict even faster unless it somehow doesn't think it's optimised (which is quite possibly for Garmin)! |

The estimates from my Fenix 8 are ludicrously optimistic - I haven't got anywhere near any of them in over 5 years (and I'm not getting any faster).

VO2 Max: en.m.wikipedia.org It's interesting that the standard complaint is they are too fast. |

I tried reading that Wiki article earlier and it has me confused - one definition seems to include weight and the other doesn't!!
