I’m thinking of splashing out on the new Forerunner 265. I’ve been waiting for a touchscreen forerunner. I currently have the Venu 2, which I like, but now I am back running regularly and want to introduce sessions I want more running focus rather than just fitness. I also like the idea of the HRV and training readiness software that is on the 265 but not the much cheaper 255.
I’d be grateful for any thoughts about whether the training readiness stuff is as useful as it seems. I’ve got a 15% code for Sportshoes running out soon ..

To be honest I pay more attention to Training Status, in particular the number of hours of recovery before a hard workout that it advises.

It does surprise me that people do pay attention to those metrics. Maybe I'm missing out on some good tech, but I cant imagine ever letting the watch guide me on how I actually feel, because I know how I actually feel!
Would be an interesting study to do - get 16 moderately well trained runners and have 8 of them rigidly follow a training plan and 8 of them following the watch advice and see whether there was actually any measurable benefit.

Thanks, yes it is interesting, but on youtube most runners I’ve seen talking about the newer Garmins seem to like those metrics.

I have a 745 at the moment; had the 630 before which was touchscreen and I had issues with that. When it got wet, e.g. in rain, in the shower, getting sweaty under a long sleeve shirt or when swimming, it randomly changed screens, data fields, settings. I also accidentally saved sessions before I had finished them.
The touchscreen even triggered the 'find my phone' function while I was in the shower and freaked out about the alarm. I had recently moved into the apartment and didn't know what it was, spent a couple of minutes frantically searching the source of the alarm while clad only in a towel 😂
So I wouldn't want another watch with touchscreen. It's just too temperamental for me. If the 265 is touchscreen, that's probably going to make me reconsider purchasing it.
About training readiness, I think training status and recovery time are enough for me; add RHR, body battery and stress levels to that and I know how much I have recovered - besides the subjective feeling on the day. So that's not a function that would sway me to buy it.

Most likely there is a quickkey for turning on/off touch screen, and a setting per activity-type for on/off. There is on Epix. It is not a problem any more.

My 955 is touch screen and I haven't had any false triggers in the rain. Maybe the tech is better than in the 630 days...
The 265 looks like a nice watch. As Steve says, you can turn the touchscreen on/off by activity so if it's an issue you can just disable.

The watch isn't guiding you on how you actually feel though is it? It's giving you data you can use in conjunction with how you feel. Lots of new runners need to learn the meaning of what they feel anyway so data can be helpful.

I have had strange things too with my hr strap. Almost new HRM pro plus, and a new battery. Yesterday it missed one of my intervals, it just kept hovering around my rest hr. And today it creeped up 15-20 beats, at first I thought it was something with me, slowed down the treadie and lowered the incline, and it got back. But when it happened again I started to compare shown hr on the watch with the treadmills hr device, and the watch was way off. Afterwards I saw in GC web that whenever the problem occurred run dynamics and breathing speed went out the window to.. Never had any problems before I even use ECG gel for the electrodes. Really annoying
So i have recognized a bit more what's happening with my data, there seems to be some interference indoors, sometimes more. and sometimes less.
But then the HR strap seems to get disturbed, and tries to fill in the blanks, and the HR goes up and up. I can see exactly where, cus it loses breathing completely, and the HR data starts rising.
