You are correct - longer string appears more square, as shown in your pic!

It's fine that it still works, but rainy day etc would the slightly wider, bigger version on mine give an advantage? If so, think the developer should look into that factor?

Turning on the backlight definitely makes it easier to read, whatever the light.
As far as size goes, my F6x popped its clogs last night, and I put the barcode on the F5 that nobody has wanted to buy off me (phew!) - it shows up smaller but reads absolutely fine. One of the barcode devs said that it's set up so that the bars are an exact number of pixels wide while the whole thing is as large as possible.

I suspect it all depends on how well the camera used focuses on nearby objects, but like I say I had no issues at the weekend.

[I'd better delete that trial I did with larkim's barcode, in case I *do* accidentally stuff up his parkrun stats!0 :-) G ]

There's some fairly "standard" expectations around barcodes so that they remain scannable.

It's as much (if not more) about the white as the black form the scanner's point of view!

I suspect it'll be "fun" on a bright day with reflections on watch screens, or when there are raindrops distorting the image.

(Many years ago I did a lot of work on barcodes and scanners for laundry/workwear rental - embroidered barcodes, as well as printed on polyester labels! I used to be able to bore for England on the subject of interleaved 2 of 5, inter-bar spacing, and contrast ratios. Generating barcodes on a programmable screen in a doddle by comparison!)

There is this fairly rare weird issue that seems to be the flash memory going bad and making itself read-only - first sign is it reboots and pretends it's a tactix!

Some plausible looking rumours say the F7 will be announced in January, so maybe it's upgrade time

Read-only doesn't sound like a great solution for a recording device! Surely they'll replace f.o.c. if that's the case though.

Looks like the 7 is imminent the way they are discounting. Expect they'll do the usual and put up the price another £100 for the new version.

What's the rumours on new features for F7 ?

F6 does pretty much everything I could imagine a running/outdoor could do, but maybe I don't have a very good imagination ;-)
