On TRO's point about technical ability, I think it's maybe noteworthy that England could pretty much put out a full team of players who didn't start the game yesterday that would still be very competitive at this level. It doesn't feel like we'd struggle with the loss of a single key player in the way that we might in the past. E.g.
Pope, Alexander-Arnold, Mings, Coady, Chilwell, Mount, Foden, Henderson, Grealish, Calvert-Lewin, Rashford plus Ramsdale, Sancho, Bellingham, White, Bamford, Maddison

Apparently German fans like us, they're happy that Loew is gone.
And yes if I criticise Southgate for Saka -> Grealish, well that was mild compared to - what the hell was Emre Can on for Ginter at 87 minutes????
Not to mention Werner for ex Baggies man Gnabry. (And yes I know he has been a revelation for Bayern), but he's not an out and out striker like Werner. Bizarre and baffling subs.

But Loew was 'gone' anyway - announced months ago he would leave after the tourno. It was a bit like Bobby Robson who had a disastrous Euro 88 and announced his departure before the Tournament, presumably just to take some heat off the squad.
All we did was make his last game yesterday rather than the weekend or next week.
German minds must be spinning, Bundesliga clubs now scout young English players who pull up trees for them and yet can;t make our National team...
