There are loads of positives.

I thought Saka had a really good twenty minutes. Phillips has a bit of everything.

Bloody hell, even Pickford has been alright.

I've really enjoyed the whole tournament so far, lots of good games and a very competent looking England is a bonus. I feel like there is plenty more to come.

History is written by the victors. Find my blog about the small things that change the whole narrative.

Muller could have scored he didn’t. We did. Twice. That’s all the record books will show.

Also check out my blog on how champions win it. It ain’t by blowing everyone away. The all conquering Tika takaers were 1-0 to the Spain.

Apologies you were right, it was in the finals. And then we both went out in the group stages!

Pickford has been better than alright, he’s been excellent so far and looks surprisingly composed.

(Sterling's dodgy pass was assisted by a German kicking the back of his heel as he made the pass, so not totally his cock-up except in that he took to long to play the ball)

After that 2000 game both England and Germany were eliminated.

So outraged were the Germans at the ineptitude of their side and the terrible football they played (remember Carsten Jancker up front) that they initiated a huge reform of their entire game that led to the Muller/Ozil etc generation. They did squeak into the WC final in 2002, but reaped the rewards of this from 2010 onwards.

We staggered on just as shit for another 10-12 years before acting. We aren’t a great side but you have to say that immense gulf in technical ability is closing fast with the current generation of players coming through, so we are reaping some benefits.

I wonder what other teams are thinking about England? As much as I'm enjoying us winning (and seven 1-0 wins, each via a 95th minute penalty, will guarantee you'll win the tournament) I can't help but think that 'even' the likes of the other teams in our half of the draw - not to mention the teams in the other half - will definitely think they can beat us.

are Italy, Belgium or Spain watching England and having doubts because they might need to face us at some point? I wouldn't think so. Even with us not conceding a goal yet, those 3 teams will be confident of scoring against us.

But let's enjoy last night's victory first!

Ah, the beautiful game, remember that? Let's put down some jumpers and have a socially-distanced kickabout. Long shots only, and no hugging and kissing.
