Question for the panel

I've always "just swum"

I start then stop
no warm up main set cool down just swimming

what's the benefits of breaking the swim up?

If I did 3x400 rather than 1200m how long would you "rest" for? And what benefit is that rest? From what I read it's seconds so it's not really a recovery get your breath back rest?

I really must read that book(s) Angus Clydesdale recommended!

I usually break my long(ish) swims up, otherwise I find my form going to ratshit and it's form that I want to focus on For instance, this morning I did 4 x 300m and 1 x 520m off 25 sec rest between sets, then finished off with a few drills.

Pixie in addition to what Exile said it is basically the same as any form of interval training. You should be able to work harder on shorter intervals even with a very short rest

Thanks to advice from Angus Clydesdale I did a CSS test this morning
averaged out at 2:24 for 100m
I now need to work out what to do with this knowledge and perhaps learn how to actually use my tempo timer in the pool

Very nice Pix.
Now you need to get back to training. Next time you’ve got this much time you should swim 5 x 400 at 2:32 - 2:34 per 100 (so ~ 10:10 / 400 ) with :35 - :40 RI between each one. No need to warm up but should have a 5 min easy stretchy swim down.

That’s my Monday session then! I’m on holiday next week so plan 3 long swim sessions 😀
