I've been playing this for a couple of weeks. One quarter of my circle never gets anything in it. This an open access area, loads and paths and tracks and I run there quite a bit. How do I make it get some things in it?

Welcome Pingu. You just have to be patient. Only a certain number of items are generated per player each day.

Hi Pingu_76 and welcome to the forums. My understanding is that the distribution of markers is random so there's nothing other than misfortune that should be preventing things appearing anywhere.
The whole game is based on a worldwide grid of individual points that are either 'on' by default or 'off' because somebody has marked them inaccessible. They can be turned back 'on' by logging an activity that goes through them but nobody except Fetch (so far as I know) can access the underlying grid itself. So - if the area stays clear for a while despite you running through it, it may be worth dropping Fetch a note (via the feedback button) to have him check whether a large part of the area has been marked as inaccessible by somebody else. If it has, then it may take a few weeks of running to have the various points reactivated - unless Fetch resets them all for you.

Thank you everyone. I'll carry on running there and hope things start to pop up in that area.

I once marked an infected bug as inaccessible because it was the other side of a fence inside a members only sports complex. Either someone infected it on the inside, or had a GPS wobble and got lucky. But it was inaccessible to me. (I did run as close to the fence as I could to see if I could get it but still wasn’t enough)

How long do traffic lights, bugs, jewels etc hang around if they aren’t moved or claimed

Most things for seven days - bugs for thirty
Traffic lights also have a maximum life of thirty days - once claimed, they need refreshing within seven days otherwise they will expire eight days after the most recent refresh if that comes sooner than the thirty day maximum.

I have just started back from covid and things seem to be going a bit better. I own some traffic lights, bugs & flowers, & my score today was only -40 instead of the usual -280 odd!
