I'm away for a good part of this month and had hoped to do my collection here but I'll have to do it back at home. I saw loads of trees in blossom before I came and I know of quite a few literary things but I won't have a clue about number 10 as I've never heard a podcast ever.

I’m not sure about the next one. It’s a mark where the list thingy said an official benchmark would be, but I can’t say I’m certain - it’s too late to find an alternative, so any opinions welcome.

An official Brown Sign was surprisingly hard to find (most of the signs in the city centre are a sedate dark green) so I hopped on the walls to see if there was one for the NRM, and there was. As a bonus, the museum’s Transit-pretending-to-be-a-choo-choo is also shown, taking tourists on a little trip to see the Minster.

The next one is a twofer: spirals on the base of the lampposts and the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey in its modern role as a garden ornament. Big garden (Museum Gardens) and a big ornament, but that’s what it is these days - you’ll see it peeping out coyly from behind the very uninteresting benches (no good for January’s list).

Date on a building: I was surprised that this was the oldest contemporary date on a building I could find as I trotted round the middle of York: The Bonding Warehouse, 1875. Lots of plaques and so on with much more remote dates, but I liked the Seagull on this one.

[112071]

All these were taken on February 3rd when I went for a tourist trot looking for all the items on the list, and ended up running ten miles. I’ve missed off the pub with legs. I have pictures of The Black Swan and The Three-Legged Mare. As the latter (also known as The Wonky Donkey, naturally) is named after the local gallows (Dick Turpin et al), I think the bird is the winner. Just need to upload the image...

So. Many. Mistakes.

The date:

The pub:

Looking up was the first one I posted, way back last month. I think that’s the lot now! Really enjoyed finding them (thanks, Silvershadow), and looking forwards to this month’s now. Can’t remember ever seeing a yellow fire hydrant, though...

I should have blogged all that, shouldn’t I? I’m pretty sure blogs can be edited. 🙄

beebop - what you are looking for with the fire hydrant is just the H symbol so one of these

Here's a useful article about them from the BBC website

Thanks! As lots of other people have said, it’s amazing how much more of your surroundings you take in on a treasure hunt. Can’t remember ever seeing one, but will probably notice loads now. :-)

I sprained my ankle playing on one of those hydrant things when I was 8. It was a really bad sprain and has never quite been right since.
