Sorry!! Yes, couple of beers and the instruments came out... At one point we had a bugle, a sax, a bass and a uke all playing (I use the word loosely) at once!

EdJ - when do you think you might get Charriots of Fire parts done? - no pressure intended, just curious ๐

Planning on learning a brass instrument. We're in a detached house although on an executive box estate, so neighbours quite close by. What might be kindest? I was veering towards trumpet, but maybe cornet would be a softer tone. Or maybe something a bit deeper. I'm hoping oboing skills might help with controlling the sound a bit.

erm.... the ONLY way to get sound out of a brass instrument when you start is to blow it very hard. It takes years and a good deal of talent before you can play them quietly :/

Not sure your neighbours will be too worried about the difference between trumpet and cornet, assuming they can even discern it. Baritone, euphonium and trombone are all potentially more mellifluous.

I was going to suggest a practice mute. My friend plays trombone and practices at home with a mute which makes it very manageable

I really rate the plastic "brass", btw - Normans for the best price.

I'm thinking the practice mute largely sorts the issue. Thanks for the suggestions. Now to decide which instrument
