Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

These are the best longish distance ‘fell lite’ shoes I’ve had by miles. Wide in the toe-box mind; definitely not like a racing fit

Me too. I got through four pairs of X-Claw 275s and I'm also on my second pair of 260 Ultras. Great shoes, I think I have clocked over 500 miles on the first pair of 260s and the uppers are still intact, they're just coming apart here and there around the welt. It was always the uppers that went on the X-Claw, the 260 Ultras have that really good DWR upper.

My only criticism of them is that perhaps they don't hold your foot firmly enough in place on very steep descents, the one bad experience I had with them was when we did the CT on a red hot day, I ended up with blisters across the end of my toes.

I've got a pair of 260s I'm about to stick on eBay if anyone is interested, UK10s, with 90 miles on them.

The uppers seem far more robust than the x-claws and the soles are the same, but they seem to size bigger than the x-claws, and my feet move around in them too much so I'm going to try a smaller size.

I would have said half a size bigger, flanker - I'm keeping the pair I have to wear Sealskins with for the really horrid wet gooey stuff and am going to get a pair a half size smaller as well for just general mud etc- because I do love them!

I wear my (normal Inov-8 size for me) 10.5’s with thick socks but agree my feet do shuffle about in them a bit especially either downhill but more so contouring

I think the issue is the insole, the one in the 260 is thinner than the one in the X-Claw, I'd imagine the shoe itself is the same size. I've put a thicker insole in my new, as yet unworn, 260's and they feel ok in the house - proof of the pudding soon............

True. The insole on the X-Claw was quite thick and absorbent.

They feel longer too, I've got too much space at the end. Will see, ordered 9.5s tonight...

Selected highlights of various Woodentops races this morning from Penistone Hill.

Went Left from the Top Withins trig along the other path (not the ALS descent path) towards Crow Hill along the watershed.

Unfortuantely the little path peters out past the craggy boulders (OS tells me they're called Alcomden Stones) and it's a bit of a heathery/boggy slog to Crow Hill from there. Maybe better in the summer.

We then dropped E off crow hill down to the track before cutting back across for a loop of Ponden Clough - we missed the splash line back up to the Pennine Way though.

Good morning out, even a bit breezy in places.
