That's a sweeping statement Fozzy. Can I just say that you asked and I gave you a reasonably authoritative and polite answer, so please let me assure you, they've been there for some time: That descent off West Buck Stones is a key point of the Rombald's Stride and despite everything I've contrived to do it every year, moreover the line out to Windgate Nick is part of a circuit we do regularly from Burley Woodhead, so I can be reasonably certain. I'm sorry you don't remember them being there, but that's no reason to question my response, I'll keep stumm next time. Perhaps ask someone in your club, they might give you a more credible answer. |

It is entirely possible that I am remembering a run from a few years ago and thinking it was late last year. According to my training log, I've not been up to Buck stones this year, so I've already misremembered. |

Yep, I was definitely totally misremembering. My bad. Last time I went down the edge of the plantation either to or down from West Buckstones was Dec 2017..... So entirely possible they've been there for 2 years. |

Also never answered your Q - the bit immediately W of Windgate Nick as far as the edge of the plantation is worth adding ~400m on to run up to the bench or so. Out round the edge of the plantation to Nab End itself isn't really worth the effort. Especially if it's as boggy as it is currently. |

Very sad and upsetting. Deepest commiserations to Chris Smiths family and friends. We all love our days out in the hills enjoying the freedom and challenge that the high paths bring. This is a reminder that the sport we all love is not without it's risks even to the most accomplished and well prepared. Be careful out there everyone. |

Any got the VJ Sports XTRM fell shoe, gets great reviews on-line ? How is sizing compared to Salomon, Inov8 etc ? Pete Bland already had 10% off, and the extra 15% for this weekend ( see the Bargains thread ) makes it seem a good price and worth a try........ |

Yes I have Gus and I'm definitely a fan. On my second pair (first pair are still in use though) . I've found them superb and much more robust than Inov8s (certainly recent ones). I did multiple round supports in them in late summer mainly in the rougher/rockier parts of the Lakes and found they protected my feet well. Grip is good as well. I've also worn them in the last year to do some 30 odd mile more trail based stuff (e.g. Tour de Helvellyn and Haworth Hobble) and found they offered me enough cushioning to cope with hardpack/road sections (the only downside to using them for stuff like that is that with any shoe that has reasonably grippy sole using them on roads or hard trails tends to wear the studs faster).
