Just plotted that. It would be a decent run, maybe 15 miles.

From memory on the West (first Cumbrian and then Lancastrian) side of the wall, there's a small decent trod. But that was 8 or 9 years ago.

Significantly more climbing than my route! And further up Kingsdale - not sure on the parking that far up, as the road is single track with passing places once you get past the bottom of Whernside (again from memory). It used to be a gated road for much of the length, but can't remember where the gates are (one is just coming out of Dentdale I think) |

Yes, I was thinking that parking could be the issue. You could go round to Dent I suppose, but as you know that's a bit of a pain.

Driving up to Dent via Kingsdale is worth doing at some point. Just to have done it. It's *so* quiet. Especially compared to Ribblesdale.

Finally tidied up a bit in my head this morning by running the section of Addingham High Moor from Windgate Nick to Nab End - never managed to do that short stretch before. 'Twas a bit boggy along the edge of the plantation. Also anyone know how long the duckboards that have been put down on the path below West Buckstones? They seem to be there to allow Mountain Bikers to cross the boggy stretch to the flagged path over the red bog. Which is a shame. I don't know who's put them down, but they're plastic and don't fit in with the moor at all. |

I've never gone further W of Windgate Nick either, was going to Nab End worth the effort? Those plastic duckboards have been down for a while now, I don't know how/why they came to be there but in the years I've been running thereabouts it's always been very boggy - perhaps it was just to control erosion? I'd be surprised if facilitating mountain bikers was the rationale behind it. Did you notice that one of them was broken? So much for indestructible.

p.s I've just conferred with Bobs and we reckon they've been there for at least a couple of years

They can't have been, as I was up on t'moor earlier this year and came down from Buckstones and don't remember the duckboards at all. The flags on the other hand have been down about 6-7 years. |
