Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

And that you know the course in advance and can recce. I rarely need to look at a map in an ultra, so having spent 35 years doing a lot of both, mostly nothing like orienteering...

I could for instance go out and run the 10 Peaks in anything except very low vis and run pretty much the whole thing without a map.

It wasn't set up as a navigational challenge and has actually come a strange route to the race it is now. It was a charity event the first couple of years and when no-one finished the first year was suddenly billed as impossible :). I have run the long Lakes course a couple of times and took quite different but really enjoyable routes each time. It is 2/3rds of a BG so the first time I did it it gave me a gauge on how ready I was for one.

Since I last ran it in 2016, Shane Ohly took it over it for a couple of years and I imagine smoothed off the rougher, less polished parts of the race organisation (including vague 'out of bounds' sections) before handing it on to Kong.

I think it's a brilliant route and covers some of the best of the Lakes mountains whilst being a tough day out. Still not sure about the Skiddaw loop at the end though ;).

(I remember the last ALS before it went Pre-entry and was lucky to get a number)
