We've had an epic fail this week - not a single climbing session. It's been a tough week and I suspect the destressing properties of climbing would have helped. It was too much of a thought to leave the house in the evening though.

Sometimes a week or two off is a good thing :)

I think we'll benefit from a week or two off after lots of climbing sessions in quick succession. In theory, I'm knocking on the door of a seven, because eL Bee! and I both climbed two routes labelled as 6c+ today, but there's no way they actually were that grade.

I always find I'm super rubbish after time off. I'm sure it's a mental thing more than a physical.

Led my first 6a on Thursday. Convinced it was a soft grading!!

So - I'm 55 next month and have never climbed anything apart from a few trees in my youth.

There are two well-reviewed climbing walls within 20 miles.

What happens next?

Next, Mr P, I suggest you sign up for a beginner's climbing course at one of those climbing walls and prepare yourself for the possibility that you'll spend the first session hating it. You can hire all the kit you need at the start; beginners' courses prices usually include kit hire.

eL Bee! and I will be happy to go climbing with you when we're down that way later this year.

We're about to go to Kendal for our first climbing wall session in almost three months. I predict feebleness, mild humiliation, strafed hands and DOMS.

What velociraptor said. A learn to climb course is a good start. Don't be put off if it doesn't feel easy to begin with.

And the shoes will be tight. But it will be very satisfying.

Yes! Do it. You will be strong, like monkey.
