My first thought was axb3, but I was concerned about opp’s c5+ zwischenzug before recapturing

axb5 gives him the outside passed pawn but is indeed a draw. There was a lot going on in that endgame and I had a swindler’s chance even after my losing move of e5+ but he wasn’t falling for it.

Was e5+ totally losing? analysis suggests you might have been able to salvage it?

Definitely a loss SPR, Stockfish has me at an immediate -6 or so. Shame as we’d played a very even game up to there and I thought it was all under control.

Ok, the analysis on chess.com seems broken. If you click on analysis it shows what you say on the lines below the summary (actually +7.53 for white), but the review and summary show incorrect scores. On the analysis lines axb3 is the only move. fxg5 is also +7.53 |

It's quite funny that the bar alongside the board goes from 0.9 to 7.5 for e5 just by me switching from review to analysis on the options when reviewing.

Perhaps not doing enough ply (and not being able to evaluate the position at the end of the tree). Often a problem with long sequences like pawn promotion.

Just looking on the LiChess Stockfish it agrees, axb3 has it as 0.0. I didn't cheat! Just that getting pawns off is a good general principle if you're on the defensive. If bxc4. b3xa4! is a nice trick winning with the outside passed pawns.

The second game that caught my eye was ptwice Vs Salty. Wild game which I thought ptwice was going to win about half way through but a tempting pawn turned the tide of the game just past half through. chess.com |
