Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

So, rhb, was there anything I could have done to avoid this endgame? Feels like I threw the advantage away

Taking my Knight on move 32 was an error I was looking for from you when I moved to invite the take. If you'd pushed your Pawn forward past my Knight to f5 then it & the Queen were in a very strong position over my King plus they'd be tieing up my Knight in defence of g6.

Qg3-d5 looked a good pawn gain but created the opportunity to exchange pieces leading to the pin that forced the Queen swap. You'd have been better to keep your Queen in the game i think as it was proving a real menace.

Otherwise I was worried Rd1-d5 would have strengthened your attacking position, although the diagonal rooks did a very good job of preventing my Queen from any mischief...

Greater minds than mine will perhaps see more options that you had open to you, and possibly some for me too.

It's still an open ending with all 3 results possible, although draw perhaps looking more likely once more.

To be clear, by "Greater minds than mine" I'm not meaning to imply mine is great at all. I've played a lot over the years but never to any level that'd trouble most club players.

I'll stop digging now...

Well played Max, thanks for the game. I need some strategies for moving beyond the opening, I often look at the board and have no idea what to do next. Having said that, the analysis didn’t throw up too many blunders.

I knew you were trying to get me to lose my Queen but I was resisting as that really would have been the end!

I don't know openings, and hope to blunder into a middle game when I can just judge it on its merits, before getting lost in an end game.
