Odd bluebell here in the highlands too. Saw a siskin in the garden this morning and a grey partridge in the local distillery grounds. Went to get some duck eggs from my neighbour and his peacocks were looking very beautiful - the male’s royal blue neck feathers are stunning close up. There are also a white couple - the male was parading around and when he hopped up onto a coop, it looked like someone sitting in a wedding dress, complete with tiara.

Finally. Willow Warbler.
Loads of them, not far from home, in a (fairly) recently planted patch of birch trees.
And then, up on the moor, millions of singing Skylark, and the first Redshank I've seen up here this year. Lots of Curlew and Lapwing, too.

I couldn’t keep count of chiffchaff on this morning’s dog walk. Maybe ten in a mile. Twice I could hear three or four at once. Also three blackcap singing

Very odd noise outside yesterday.
Merlin said Ring Ouzel. Hmm.
Possible Chiffchaff drinking from the pond this morning. Was just comparing the details to a willow warbler using the bins and it flew off 😂

That was a fun 5 minutes in the garden. Sat in the sunshine. Red kite flies over dead low. Get up to watch that. See 30 or more redwings land in the trees at the other side of the garden.
Grab bins, and stand in middle of trees looking up for them. Suddenly a sparrow hawk flies through, sending all redwings in all directions.

Something very very yellow flew across the track in front of me whilst running earlier I'm assuming yellowhammer, though it wasn't where I'd usually see one (actually I haven't heard one yet this year ) away from the hedgerows- and its flight-path looked more wagtail-like.
We do get yellow waggies nesting close to the river, but I haven't seen one this side of the A1 before.
