The local blogger I follow and have met a couple of times has loads of birder mates who’ve been doing it forever. I’ll ask the question. There’s no sign of that characteristic churning sub-song associated with chiffs. At least one of the Merlin recordings captures that really well

Actually, that's taken from outside so not only is the heron close, it is also very brave or very hungry.

Great late report. I thought about them today and wasn’t expecting to discuss them again. I’m going to my old village tomorrow. It’s very swifty and I’ll be looking and listening

At MiL's yesterday - took camera but nothing to photo.
Back again today, didn't bother with the camera. 2 green woodpeckers spent the afternoon on her lawn.
Grrr.
