A lovely evening visit to a heath in Bournemouth produced Nightjars churring - the memories will stay with me, hopefully longer than the mosquito bites!

Great stuff. There’s a site not a million miles from us. We really ought to go. Riding woodcock still worth looking (and listening) out for too

Six very happy, screaming swifts right now.
Don’t know why but I find them a joy to watch. Almost like a better version of the red arrows.

In fact I’ve just looked up and counted 18.

Never noticed as many as 18 before at once. Certainly not in recent years. Though it was only looking quite a bit higher than normal.

I keep thinking they’ve become happier with this sun!

Definitely far fewer swifts around here this year, sadly. They're here but not in numbers.
AJLB's post has inspired me to go out this evening and listen for nightjars at a local heath where they're usually found.

Goldcrest in tree near house, first I've seen in the garden for ages.
