Nearly hit a buzzard on my way to work. It flew directly towards the windscreen before rising above the car at the last minute.

A lovely barn owl in flight on my run last night. Loads more swifts again this morning. |

Had a lovely close up encounter with a kestrel this morning. It'd swooped down into some bushes just ahead of me then flew out again when it realised I was coming. There are lots of rabbits live in these bushes.

I guess there are other smaller mammals in the bushes too as, unless it was a very young rabbit, I think they'd be too big for a kestrel to take.

We've got hardly any swallows this year and no house martins.

The last couple of years I’ve barely seen any hirundines and basically have forgotten they are supposed to be here

I feel like I see decent amounts of at least swallows and swifts. But it’s probably one of those things where each year you don’t notice how fewer than the previous year. There’s a section of the Tees where I often used to see plenty of activity of martins and swallows darting above the river. But it’s somewhere where I’ve run or walked much less - possibly not even been for last couple of years - and might be a good qualitative test of the decline. |
